Relief Loads That Crossed the Floods to Reach Yen Bai

After Typhoon Yagi, many parts of Yen Bai lay under water and mud. Roads were cut, homes and schools were damaged, and the daily life of families was overturned in a very short time. On days like those, a bottle of clean water, a packet of medicine, a torch or a few dry notebooks all become urgent needs.

From 10 to 14 September 2024, the campaign received cash, rice, warm clothing, medicine, drinking water, essential supplies and school materials. The short window of the appeal reflects the urgency of disaster relief: goods have to be gathered fast, sorted clearly and moved to local contact points while people need them most.

At the collection point every box carried a different task. Water and food answered the immediate need; medicine and hygiene products protected health; torches were necessary while the power supply was still unstable; books and school supplies helped students prepare to return to class after the days of disruption.

Thanks to the community pulling together, drinking water, instant noodles, biscuits, milk, medicine, torches and many other essentials were delivered to representatives of Y Can commune, Tran Yen district and Van Yen district. Working through local contact points meant the relief goods were received and distributed according to the real situation in each area.

Relief after a flood is not only about carrying one family through a few hard days. When school supplies reach students and essential items reach the schools, the recovery of ordinary life also begins: classes can reopen, teachers return to work and children find again the familiar rhythm of their days after the disaster.

In a disaster, speed matters, but so do transparency and matching what is actually needed. Recording clearly when goods were received, what kinds they were and where they were given lets every contribution be traced, and lays the ground for a community that will keep trusting and keep helping in the emergencies still to come.

The floods left losses that no number of relief loads can make good. But every crate of water, every box of medicine and every set of school supplies given at the right moment reminded people that they were not alone. Through the hardest days, sharing became another kind of road — the road that brought a community closer together.

What changed

Drinking water, instant noodles, biscuits, milk, medicine, torches and many other essentials were delivered to representatives of Y Can commune, Tran Yen district and Van Yen district to support residents, students and teachers affected by Typhoon Yagi.
